Important things to remember while installing cables

10 Dec

Network cabling technology has evolved a lot over the last couple of years and if you are a network engineer you would have to get the cabling installation right at the first instance. That simply means you would have to choose the right cables for network cabling and also need to make sure that the network cabling installation are done completely without unnecessary costs. There are actually a set of international network cabling installation guidelines that you need to follow.

You need to really understand the entire gamut of cabling installation with a 360 degree view of the process. According to the international cabling guidelines, there are different color codes and sequences that need to be followed during network cabling. The functionality of different cables along with matching color codes need to be understood properly. If you do not understand these procedures properly you would not be able to complete the network cabling that is supposed to connect a wide variety of desktops, copiers, printers and more sophisticated equipment.

It is very important for you to be aware of the practical applications of different technical terms such as bandwidth, resistance, impedence, crosstalk and attenuation etc. There is also another important skill that you are required to have as a network engineer – documentation. It is very important for you to document the entire cabling process because if you don’t do that you would not be able to keep track of all the things that you have done; even if there is a minor problem in some part of the network cabling, you would not be able to spot the problem easily without documentation.

So, it is a very good idea that you at least work with someone experienced for a couple of years before taking up projects all by yourself. When picking up individual projects and there are several things that need to be kept in mind:

  • The process of giving installation is never going to get easier than at present; actually, it is going to get a bit more complex in the coming years.
  • It is always a good idea to have some spare cabling and because you never know when it can come handy; you don’t want to run out of cables to accommodate everything in the network.
  • While installing cables you need to make sure that both voice and data cables are accommodated together.
  • It is not really a good idea to start your own cabling installation system; if you do not follow the standard procedures, someone after you would not be able to make anything out of it.
  • It is very important for you to not compromise on quality. By using high-quality cabling equipment you would be able to minimize the risk of the entire network going haywire.
  • There are different varieties of cabling equipment available in the market. Some of these are available for very cheap prices while the others are a bit costly; you should make your choice depending on the reputation of the retailer and not on the cost of the cabling equipment.
